TAR 29, Recap Leg 10, 5/18/17

Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on Searching For a Fan In a Crowd Is Like Finding a Clue In a Haybale, five teams complete a Switchback Roadblock in Greece before flying to Hanoi, Vietnam.  There was much animosity over who got ladders and who didn’t, but it was Joey’s inability to read the clue that cause him and Tara to finish in last on the third non-elimination leg.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Becca and Floyd, Team Nerdgasm, #TeamFun

Clue: Make your way by bus to Tam Coc Wharf in Ninh Binh.  You have $30 for this leg of the race.

8:03 AM Matt/Redmond (2nd)
8:18 AM London/Logan (3rd)
8:36 AM Brooke/Scott (4th) – and Scott reminds us he has great patience.
8:47 AM Tara/Joey (5th) – Joey: “This is going to be like the comeback of the Red Sox versus the Yankees.”

So teams make their way to Ben Xe Khach My Dinh (also known as the bus station) and arrive in the following order:

1- Becca/Floyd
2- Matt/Redmond
3- London/Logan
4- Brooke/Scott
5- Tara/Joey

Teams arrive at the bus depot and board the following busses:

Bus 1, departs 9:00 AM
1) Becca/Floyd
2) Matt/Redmond

Bus 2, departs 9:30 AM
1) London/Logan
2) Brooke/Scott – who arrive at the Depot at 9:25 with Tara and Joey, and then bribe the bus driver to leave without them.
3) Tara/Joey – who make the 9:30 bus.

Teams now travel ninety minutes to the town of Ninh Binh and get their clue at Tam Coc in the following order:

1- Becca/Floyd
2- Matt/Redmond
3- Tara/Joey
4- Brooke/Scott
5- London/Logan

Teams are now instructed to travel by bicycle to Bich Dong Temple and pick up their Travelocity Roaming Gnome.  Teams arrive at Bich Dong in the following order:

1- Becca/Floyd
2- Matt/Redmond
3- Tara/Joey
4- London/Logan
5- Brooke/Scott

Once they arrive, Tara and Joey find their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:
A Speed Bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg when the non-elimination leg is not immediately followed by the next leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the Speed Bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, the team must collect six dozen duck eggs and deliver them to a farmer.  Once complete, teams may continue the race from where they left off.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Tara/Joey

After much egg collecting, they continue with the rest of the teams.

Teams get their clues and are now instructed to ride their bikes to Thon Hai Nham to get their next clue.  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Matt/Redmond
2- Becca/Floyd
3- London/Logan
4- Brooke/Scott
5- Tara/Joey

Once they arrive, teams get the ninth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s feeling trapped?

In this roadblock, one team member must ride a bike that they load with 15 bundles of large shrimp traps and 17 bundles of small shrimp traps and then drop off the traps to a nearby local to get their next clue.  Sound familiar?  That’s because this is a Switchback, a task previously performed on the race in the same location.  This one is from TAR3, as half of the Basket Boats or Basket Bikes Detour.  It is most memorable for coining the verb “To Flo” in reference to the TAR3 Winners Zach and Flo, and Flo’s penchant to whine about EVERYTHING, soon to be replaced by its synonym, “To Brooke”.  So, woot. (Toyouke: "If you've forgotten, the Amazing Editors kindly put some footage of Flo Floing without mentioning her name or anything, since they are so sure you'll know exactly who it is.")

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Matt
2- Floyd – who can’t balance the bike, loses baskets on his first ride, goes all the way back to the start to get them, drops more baskets on his second ride, goes back to get them, finally delivers the baskets, and then makes it back to the start of the task to collapse from exhaustion.  And the medics are called.
3- London
4- Scott - (Toyouke: "BOO I wanted Brooke to fail at this")
5- Joey

After much basket biking, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Matt/Redmond
2- Brooke/Scott
3- Tara/Joey
4- London/Logan
5- Becca/Floyd – who are now dealing with Floyd’s heat exhaustion.

Teams are now instructed to ride to Den Thai Vi – Ben Thanh to get their next clue.  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Matt/Redmond
2- Brooke/Scott
3- Tara/Joey
4- London/Logan

Teams are now instructed to pick up a tray of prayer offerings and then row a boat with their feet to deliver them to a waiting dragon boat.  Teams start the task in the following order:

1- Matt/Redmond – and Matt rows, because Matt has two legs.
2- Brooke/Scott– and Scott rows.  “I’ve got big thighs, I can push the hell out of this.”
3- Tara/Joey – and Tara rows.
4- London/Logan – and Logan rows.  And complains about being too tall for this.

Teams row and deliver their offerings in the following order:

1- Matt/Redmond
2- Brooke/Scott
3- Tara/Joey
4- London/Logan

Teams find now that they must return their bicycles and take a taxi to Hang Mua Peak and climb to the top, the PIT STOP of the tenth leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1- Matt/Redmond – who win a trip for two to Costa Rica.  Phil: “Tell me about this leg.”  Redmond: “It’s made of carbon fiber.”
2- Brooke/Scott – Brooke: “We nailed it today!”  Yeah, because Scott did all the tasks, FLO.
3- Tara/Joey
4- London/Logan
5- Becca/Floyd

Phil takes a moped to meet Becca and Floyd at the Roadblock, where Floyd is still recovering.  He lets them know that all the teams have checked in and they have been eliminated from the Race.  But Becca and Floyd are now Best Friends Forever!

ORDER NOW:
1st – Matt/Redmond
2nd – Brooke/Scott
3rd – Tara/Joey
4th – London/Logan

Next week: South Korea!  Cup Stacking!  Video Games!  Final 3!  Until next time!
