TAR 28 Recap Leg 10, 4-29-16

Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on That’s One of Tyler’s Ex-Boyfriends, 6 teams made their way to Bali, Indonesia. There was snake, fruit and water carrying, and Rachel had a hard time with the water. Sheri and Cole successfully completed a Speed Bump, and a Double Roadblock leg caused Kurt to max out of Roadblocks, forcing Brodie to complete at least one. As per whenever Brodie had to complete a Roadblock this season, Tyler and Kurt won the leg (Toyouke: “I do enjoy that whenever Brodie has to take a Roadblock and actually complete it, Tyler and Korey win the leg.”), and Zach and Rachel couldn’t overcome Brodie’s incompetence, and were eliminated. Pinisi Boat, Semawang Beach, Sanur, Indonesia

Teams discover that the boat is taking them on an overnight journey to their next starting destination, Nusa Lembongan. Everyone got a good night’s sleep, including Brodie, complete with snoring.

7:45 AM Tyler/Korey (1st)

Clue: Disembark at the island of Nusa Lembongan and find Gamat Bay. Once there, use snorkeling gear to find one of three clue boxes at the bottom of the lagoon and get your next clue. CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD!

(Toyouke: “Are Tyler and Korey wearing Survivor buffs around their necks? They would.”)

7:53 AM Sheri/Cole (3rd)

7:54 AM Dana/Matt (4th)

7:58 AM Brodie/Kurt (5th)

So teams take their motorboats to Gamat Bay. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brodie/Kurt

Teams go diving, and for some reason, can’t figure out that their clues are in the canisters that they pull from each of the boxes at the bottom of the lagoon. (Toyouke: “I know they aren't flat envelopes but why wouldn't you try to take the canisters out? Right? Wouldn't you try anything? I don't get it.”) Once they figure that out, teams get their clues in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Brodie/Kurt

5- Dana/Matt

Teams are now instructed to take their motorboats to Mushroom Beach at Hai Tide Beach Resort. Once their teams board transportation to find the Pura Puseh steps, and get their clue from the dancing monkey. Teams arrive at Mushroom Beach in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Brodie/Kurt

5- Dana/Matt

Teams board their transportation to Pura Puseh. They arrive and find out that they have to wear sarongs to cover up their legs. They head up the stairs, chase the dancing monkey, and get their clues in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey – Tyler: “Pink is our color! They were not sarong, they were saright.”

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Brodie/Kurt

5- Dana/Matt

And teams get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Harvest OR Haul

*Harvest: Teams make their way to the Seaweed Farm and choose a marked canoe. They navigate a marked course with the poles provided, and pick up lines of seaweed along the way. Once harvested and teams return to shore, they fill baskets with seaweed and carry them on their shoulders to a tarp and spread out the seaweed to dry. Once the tarp is sufficiently covered, teams receive some face cream and their next clue from the farmer

*Haul: Teams make their way to Lembongan-Ceningan Bridge and carry 50 coconuts and 4 chickens across the bridge, dodging traffic along the way. Once complete, teams get their next clue.

1- Tyler/Korey choose Haul – Korey: “Hope the chickens don’t cock a doodle doo doo on me!”

2- Burnie/Ashley choose Haul

3- Sheri/Cole choose Haul

4- Brodie/Kurt choose Haul

5- Dana/Matt choose Haul – Dana: “I only know how to hold chickens after they are cooked.”

(Toyouke: “But do you have to carry 50 coconuts and four chickens by hand? Oh you do. Hmm. I would think Harvest might be easier because you can't take that many coconuts at one time. Although, I wonder if you could use your shirt to make a big bag for coconuts. I feel like I had a brilliant idea and no one is using it.”)

Much carrying of chickens and coconuts ensues. So, teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Brodie/Kurt

4- Sheri/Cole

5- Dana/Matt

Teams are now instructed to travel to Warung Sunrise.

CAUTION: DOUBLE U-TURN AHEAD!

Teams head to Warung Sunrise and arrive in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Brodie/Kurt

4- Sheri/Cole

5- Dana/Matt

When they arrive, teams find the U-Turn.

This is a Double U-Turn. Teams may choose to U-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is U-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete. This U-Turn is doubled, meaning two teams may U-Turn two other teams. Phil, during his explanation, does not say how many U-Turns there will be on this race.

1- Tyler/Korey choose to U-Turn Brodie/Kurt – (Toyouke: “It's so late in the season. You should use the U-Turn because this is probably the last one. Brodie and Kurt have dominated and I don't think U-Turning them is a horrible mistake.”)

2- Burnie/Ashley choose to U-Turn Tyler/Korey – and because they were first, this U-Turn did nothing than prevent Brodie and Kurt from U-Turning another team. (Toyouke: “This strategy annoys me but I also can't fault it. You know? Everyone is right; by making sure Brodie and Kurt can't just U-Turn the dancers you guarantee they're screwed. If you liked them you could have just done nothing. I'm annoyed by the strategery but that's how the thing is designed, so game the system, I guess.”)

3- Brodie/Kurt are U-Turned and cannot U-Turn

4- Sheri/Cole cannot U-Turn

5- Dana/Matt cannot U-Turn

So Brodie and Kurt head back to Harvest and complete that side of the detour. Once that is done, teams finish the U-Turn in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brodie/Kurt

Once they U-Turn (or are not U-Turned) teams are instructed to return to Hai Tide Beach Resort and find Pande Curly Paddleboard Shop to get their next clue. Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brodie/Kurt

And teams get the eleventh roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s feeling blue?

In this roadblock, one team member must travel to the Blue Lagoon, scale a ladder to the top of a forty foot cliff, do some stretching exercises with a trainer and then jump off the cliff. Once complete, the boat driver will give teams their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Tyler – Korey: "Oh, Tyler, look at the guy getting ready to jump." Tyler: "Is he cute? He looks cute." (Toyouke: “I love you, Tyler.”)
2- Ashley

3- Cole – who is deathly afraid of heights.

4- Matt

5- Brodie

After much cliff jumping, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Tyler/Korey

2- Burnie/Ashley

3- Sheri/Cole

4- Dana/Matt

5- Brodie/Kurt

Teams now make their way to Denpasar and find the Bajra Sandhi Monument, the PIT STOP of the tenth leg of this racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Tyler/Korey – who win an Alaskan Cruise for 2.

2- Burnie/Ashley – who finish second for the fifth consecutive time.

3- Dana/Matt

4- Sheri/Cole

5- Brodie/Kurt

And Brodie and Kurt are eliminated. Brodie makes plans to head to LA. #blodie
