TAR26, Recap Leg 11, 5/8/15

Welcome to Leg 11! Last time, on Fitbit Fitbit Fitbit Fitbit Fitbit, teams raced from the Netherlands to Peru.  Somehow, Hayley and Blair not only got along, but succeeded at beating all the other teams, while Laura and Tyler started to fall apart.  But Matt and Ashley weren’t able to make up their deficit and were eliminated.   Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Hayley/Blair, Team Mismatched YDC, #RxForLove
2nd – Jelani/Jenny, Team Intelligent YDC, #TheLegalTeam
3rd – Mike/Rochelle, Team Smalltown Sweetheart YDC, #TruckStopLove
4th – Laura/Tyler, Team Clueless YDC, #TeamSoCal

Virgin de La Puerta, Plaza de Armas, Otuzco, Peru

Date night?  Nope.  But we do get a recap of Tyler’s breakdown.  Whatever.

6:39 AM Hayley/Blair (1st)
Clue: Make your way back to Trujillo, Peru. Once there, find the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo and South America’s largest mosaic.  A payaso will give you a magnifying glass to find our next clue on the mosaic.  Once you find it, take it to the payaso and he will give you your official clue.

(Toyouke: “This task is some BS.)

(Toyouke: “For a beat I was really hoping Hayley's sentence of "This is a big accomplishment racing with someone you don't _____" would be finished with "like" and not "know".”)  Blair comments on Hayley’s great library voice.  I think he may be making fun of her again.

7:19 AM Jelani/Jenny (2nd)
8:35 AM Mike/Rochelle (3rd) who have major car issues and get a new cab.  (Toyouke: “I do not want Mike and Rochelle to go out because of a bad cab. I like them and they don't deserve a bad cab.”)
8:48 AM Laura/Tyler (4th) – Tyler: “Vroom vroom is universal.”

Teams make it down the mountain and find the mosaic in the following order:

1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle – but find the wrong payaso, which means clown.  (Toyouke: “How in the hell did Mike and Rochelle find some random clown? What? Dumb.”)

Teams then search the mural, using a picture enclosed in the clue, to help them find the race flag sticker attached to the mosaic pieces.  (Toyouke: “OK I see now they give you a picture to help with the mural thing but this is still some BS.”)  Teams find the sticker and take it to the clown in the following order:

1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Shake Your Hips OR Make Some Bricks
*Shake Your Hips: Teams travel to Caballo de Paso church and perform a traditional Peruvian mating dance in costume.  Once the dance is performed to the judges standards, teams get their next clue.
*Make Some Bricks: Teams travel to the Chan Chan ruins and make 12 clay bricks in a traditional manner.  Once approved, teams then take 12 dried bricks to the ruins and get their next clue from the foreman.

(Toyouke: “I'M PACKING IT!!!!  I can't see "make bricks" without a Colin flashback.“)

1- Hayley/Blair choose Make Some Bricks – (Toyouke: “Did Hayley just claim that they don't have anything to argue about during tasks? Are all their arguments about where to go?  Anyway I think we can all agree Hayley will find anything to argue about at any time. “)
2- Jelani/Jenny choose Shake Your Hips – Jelani: “I’m not confident in my Traditional Peruvian Dancing Skills.”
3- Laura/Tyler choose Make Some Bricks
4- Mike/Rochelle choose Make Some Bricks – but make one and realize it’s going to be harder than they can manage and Bald Snark to Shake Your Hips.  (Toyouke: “Yeah I think this Bald Snark was a good idea.”)

(Toyouke: “Is it weird that I already knew the key to making bricks because it's been a task on this show too many times?”)

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle

Teams are now instructed to make their way to the village of Huanchaco and find the sculpture at the corner of Avenida Ribera and Manco Capac.  They arrive in the following order:

1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle

And teams get the ninth Roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to ride a sea horse?

In this roadblock, teams must pick up a reed boat and carry it together to the seashore.  Once there, the roadblocker must paddle to a buoy, retrieve the clue, and return to shore to open the clue with their teammate.  Note: Laura and Rochelle must perform the Roadblock.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Blair – “I live on a sailboat back home and use a paddleboard to get to it.  I hope I didn’t jinx myself.”  (Toyouke: “I'm good with watching Blair in the ocean all day.”)
2- Jelani
3- Laura
4- Rochelle

After much paddling and wave riding, teams finish the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Hayley/Blair
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle

Teams are now instructed to make their way on foot to Virgen del Socorro, the PIT STOP of the eleventh leg of this racearoundtheworld.   The last team to arrive may be eliminated!

1- Hayley/Blair – who win a trip for two to India.  Because that’s what they both need.  (Toyouke: “I heard you say "one of the teams" and not "one of the final three teams" PHIL. “)
2- Jelani/Jenny
3- Laura/Tyler
4- Mike/Rochelle

And Mike and Rochelle are the last team to arrive.  However, they are going to get to race to the finish line!  Which starts right now!  But one team will be eliminated sometime on the next leg before the finish line!  So head to Dallas Texas!

(Toyouke: “OK you know what? Let's say they keep doing this final four every season. Either this is how it's done now, or the producers worried about how everyone assumed it was a fix last season so they feel like they HAVE to or else we'll all know it was producer manipulation to save Amy and Maya. Either way if everyone knows it then we're all on the same page. But it's still BS.”)

ORDER NOW:
1st – Hayley/Blair
2nd – Jelani/Jenny
3rd – Laura/Tyler
4th – Mike/Rochelle

Next episode: Final Destination City: Dallas Texas!  Cowboys, both real and football style!  Bungee cords!  Rappeling!  Monster Trucks!  (Toyouke: “How many Texas stereotypes can we fit into one hour?”)  And we FINALLY have a winner!  Does anyone still care?  Until next time!
