TAR24, Recap Leg 11, 5/11/14

Welcome to Leg 11! Last time, on How Many Spanish Stereotypes Can We Squeeze Into One Hour, the remaining four teams raced from Switzerland to Spain.  Everyone wanted to U-Turn the Brenchels, but when Jamal twisted his knee, the Afghanimals U-Turned the Cowboys instead.  Dave and Connor made their way to their fourth first place finish, and Jet and Cord were eliminated.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? (click for more)

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Dave/Connor, Team LIVESTRONG
2nd – Brendon/Rachel, Team Brenchel
3rd – Leo/Jamal, The Afghanimals
4th – Caroline/Jennifer, The Country Singers

Plaza de España, Seville, Spain

10:39 AM Dave/Connor (1st)
Clue: Take the train to Madrid and then catch a flight to London, England, United Kingdom!  Once there, choose a Ford Focus and drive selves to Liverpool and find Anfield Stadium, home to Liverpool FC.  Once there, change into uniform and score 2 goals each against a goalkeeper to get your next clue.

(Toyouke: “Weird, more random tasks that aren't a Detour or a Roadblock.”)

11:16 AM Brendon/Rachel (2nd) – Rachel: "I haven't freaked out this entire time."  (Toyouke: “I think Rachel freaked out last week.”)
11:25 AM Leo/Jamal (3rd)
11:36 AM Caroline/Jennifer (4th)

Teams make their way to the train station and arrive in the following order:

1- Dave/Connor
2- Brendon/Rachel
3- Leo/Jamal
4- Caroline/Jennifer

Teams arrive at the train station and all end up on the same train.  Then, they get the same flight from Madrid to London.  So, teams arrive in London in the following order:

1- Dave/Connor
2- Brendon/Rachel
3- Leo/Jamal
4- Caroline/Jennifer

The teams now make their way to Anfield Stadium in Liverpool in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Caroline/Jennifer
3- Brendon/Rachel
4- Dave/Connor – who somehow managed to get ridiculously lost.

(Toyouke: “Any time they have a task like this I always wonder how much the goalie or whatever is half-assing it.”)

Once there, teams shoot their goals and the teams get their clues in the following order:

1- Leo/Jamal
2- Brendon/Rachel
3- Caroline/Jennifer
4- Dave/Connor

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to Wrexham in Wales and find the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to get their next clue.  They arrive in the following order:

1- Caroline/Jennifer
2- Brendon/Rachel
3- Leo/Jamal
4- Dave/Connor

And teams get the eleventh roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who gets high water remarks?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must board an aqueduct boat and meet with a speech coach for 15 minutes and memorize a Welsh poem.  Once complete, they must perform the poem perfectly for a linguist to get their next clue and return to their partner.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Caroline
2- Brandon
3- Jamal – who reminisces about having to sing in German last race.  (Toyouke: “I think the German might be easier. Written Welsh doesn't look anything like the sounds coming out of your mouth.”)
4- Connor – who can’t seem to pronounce things correctly.  (Toyouke: “Did Connor actually screw up something? Because if she sent him back for more "oomph" and that's all, that's not fair.”)

After much Welsh poetry reading, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Brendon/Rachel
2- Caroline/Jennifer
3- Leo/Jamal
4- Dave/Connor

Teams are now instructed to drive to Bolesworth Estate to get their next clue.

Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Brendon/Rachel
2- Caroline/Jennifer
3- Dave/Connor
4- Leo/Jamal – who get hopelessly lost.

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Shoot It OR Boot It
*Shoot It: After changing into period clothing, teams must shoot 16 clay pigeons with a shotgun to get their next clue.
*Boot It: After changing into period clothing, teams must choose a pair of size 9 or 11 Wellington boots, and progressively fill them with water and toss them around a course.  Once at the end, the course manager will give teams their next clue.

(Toyouke: “So...is the boot thing set up so you have to keep trying until you throw it far enough? Or do you have to move the boot down the field a bunch of times?  They just explained it to Rachel and I still don't know what is going on. Also are they going to get penalized for not using the right size boot?”)

1- Brendon/Rachel choose Boot It  - but manage to choose size 10 the first time they complete the course, so they have to do it again. Rachel: “I didn’t know!”  (Toyouke: “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA  No one's fault but your own.”)
2- Caroline/Jennifer choose Shoot It
3- Dave/Connor choose Shoot It
4- Leo/Jamal choose Shoot It

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Caroline/Jennifer
2- Dave/Connor
3- Brendon/Rachel
4- Leo/Jamal

Teams now find that they must drive themselves to Peckforton Castle, the PIT STOP of the eleventh leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Dave/Connor – who win a trip for two to Fiji.
2- Caroline/Jennifer
3- Brendon/Rachel
4- Leo/Jamal

And Leo and Jamal are eliminated, but they are confident that they are now a significant part of TAR history.

ORDER NOW:
1st – Dave/Connor
2nd – Caroline/Jennifer
3rd – Brendon/Rachel

Next week: Finale!  There will be David Copperfield and light bulb changing in Las Vegas.  Oh, and the teams actually skydive to the finish mat!  Until next time!
