TAR22, Recap Leg 9, 4/21/13

Welcome to Leg 9! Last time, on On Top of a Mountain All Covered With Cheese,  teams raced from Botswana to Switzerland.  Chuck and Wynona fell apart, and chose to roll cheese down a hill, which caused them to get a game finishing penalty, sending them home.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? Arrival at the pit stop last episode:

Clue: Make way to Dresden, Germany!  Once there, find the Ministry of Finance and choose a Ford Fusion to get your next clue.

And, apparently we don’t care about any other team departures.

Teams travel to the Grindelwald Train Station and arrive in the following order:

1- Bates/Anthony

2- Mona/Beth 

3- Max/Katie

4- Caroline/Jennifer 

5- Joey/Meghan

Teams take the train.  While on the train, everyone falls asleep, and apparently Bates’ bag goes missing.  Luckily, he had his passport on his person and can keep racing.  (Toyouke: “I'm glad Bates had his passport. That sucks, but he seems to be rolling with the punches.”)  Teams transfer to an airplane and make their way (via Amazing Red and Blue Lines) to Dresden.  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Mona/Beth 

3- Bates/Anthony

4- Joey/Meghan 

5- Caroline/Jennifer

Teams now make their way to get their cars.  They arrive at the Ministry of Finance in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan 

3- Caroline/Jennifer

4- Bates/Anthony 

5- Mona/Beth

Teams enter their cars and must now use the MyFord Touch system to answer three questions:

1) Who said “Tear down this wall?” (Reagan)

2) Who did he say it to? (Gorbachev)

3) Where was it said? (Brandenburg Gate in Berlin)

Once the questions are answered correctly, they must drive themselves to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.  Teams answer the questions in the following order:

1- Max/Katie – (Toyouke: “Reagan is Max's favorite president because OF COURSE.”)

2- Joey/Meghan – (Toyouke: “OK so if they have the nice cars with GPS and stuff, then Joey and Meghan shouldn't get lost, right? Because that would mean they're just morons.”)

3- Caroline/Jennifer

4- Bates/Anthony 

5- Mona/Beth

Teams now drive themselves 100 miles to the Brandenburg Gate.  (Toyouke: “Is the Brandenburg Gate where Jonathan shoved Victoria?”  Kmanpat: “Yes, TAR6 Leg 5, which also featured beer, team coasters, Slave House Memorial, and box car derby.”)  Teams arrive in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan 

3- Mona/Beth

4- Bates/Anthony 

5- Caroline/Jennifer – who get lost trying to follow the hockey brothers.

Teams are then instructed to make their way to the roof of the Park Inn Hotel in Alexanderplatz to get their next clue.  They arrive in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan 

3- Mona/Beth

4- Bates/Anthony 

5- Caroline/Jennifer

Teams are told to base fly to the ground to get their next clue.  (Toyouke: “Did they paint a giant clue box on the ground? That is AWESOME.”)  They do so in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan 

3- Mona/Beth

4- Bates/Anthony 

5- Caroline/Jennifer

Teams now receive the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:

Train Trials OR Font Follies

*Train Trials: Teams make their way to Deutches Technikmuseum and build a model train on a platform.  Once teams use all the pieces and can get the train around the entire circuit, the conductor will give them their next clue.

*Font Follies: Teams wander through Alexanderplatz to find large neon letters.  Once a team member choose their letter, they cannot switch.  They then carry the letters on foot to the Buchstabenmuseum, where the curator will give them their next clue.

(Toyouke: “There is a Museum of Letters? I wanna go!”)

1- Max/Katie choose Font Follies

2- Mona/Beth choose Font Follies

3- Joey/Meghan choose Train Trials – (Toyouke: “I love that Joey and Meghan immediately failed when they turned on the train. I also like the animated exploding locomotive.”  Kmanpat: “Reminds me of the Whammy from the original Press Your Luck.”)

4- Bates/Anthony choose Font Follies – and Anthony drops and breaks his letter en route to the museum.  Rather than return to Alexanderplatz and get a new letter, they decide to Bald Snark to Train Trials.

5- Caroline/Jennifer choose Font Follies

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Mona/Beth

3- Joey/Meghan 

4- Caroline/Jennifer 

5- Bates/Anthony  

Teams are now instructed to drive themselves to the Salon Zur Wilden Renate and find the Peristal Singhum to get their next clue.  They arrive and get their clue in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan

3- Caroline/Jennifer 

4- Mona/Beth

5- Bates/Anthony  

And teams get the tenth roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who wants to go trippin’?

In this roadblock, roadblockers answer the question “Who siad ‘Ich Bin ein Berliner’?”, and once they give the correct answer( John F. Kennedy), they are given a coin to enter the labyrinth.  Teams search for the white room to get their clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

1- Katie – (Toyouke: “Katie, I was enjoying rooting against your team. Don't confuse me by referencing "Legends of the Hidden Temple".”  Kmanpat: “This looks like a good place to go searching for Olmec.”)

2- Joey – (Toyouke: “WHAT "The top Roadblock of Amazing Race history" you fucking idiot. Not even close.”)

3- Jennifer

4- Beth

5- Anthony

After much labyrinthing, teams finish the Roadblock in the following order:

1- Max/Katie

2- Joey/Meghan

3- Caroline/Jennifer 

4- Bates/Anthony

5- Mona/Beth  

Teams are now instructed to travel to Kurfürstendamm, the PIT STOP of the ninth leg of this racearoundtheworld.  The last team to arrive may be eliminated!

1- Max/Katie –who win 2 2013 Ford Fusions!

2- Joey/Meghan

3- Caroline/Jennifer

4- Bates/Anthony

5- Mona/Beth

And Mona and Beth are the last team to arrive.  But this is the third of the three non-elimination legs, so they will have a Speed Bump on the next leg of the race.
