TAR21, Recap Leg 6, 11/4/12

Welcome to Leg 6! Last time, on Dhaka and Dhaka Again, teams continued racing through Bangladesh.  The Twins spar with Abbie and Ryan, Brent succumbs to the heat, and the Chippendales screw up, but it’s Josh and Brent who end up in last place on the first non-elimination leg, and will face a Speed Bump on this leg.  Who will be eliminated. . . next? Clue: Fly 3700 miles to Istanbul, Turkey!  Once there, travel to Kabatas Ferry Terminal and take a ferry back to the Asia side of Istanbul.  You have $100 for this leg of the race.

Teams must go to Galaxy Travel to book their tickets, and they do so in the following order:

In an interesting turn of events, the Twinnies find a wad of cash on the counter, which happens to be the Musician’s $100 for the leg.  They pocket the cash with Texas, and leave James and Abba to go panhandling in Bangladesh.  As they do, they recoup the $100.

Teams arrive at the airport in the following order:

4- Trey/Lexi   

5- Natalie/Nadiya

(Toyouke: “Time for some bunching.”)  All teams are on the same flight that lands in Istanbul at 6:25 AM, so the Amazing Red Line takes our teams to Istanbul.  Teams leave the airport in the following order:

1- James/Abba 
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- Natalie/Nadiya

4- Jaymes/James  

5- Rob/Kelley

6- Trey/Lexi

7- Josh/Brent

Teams are now en route to the Kabatas Ferry Terminal and they arrive in the following order:

1- James/Abba 
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- Natalie/Nadiya

4- Trey/Lexi  

5- Josh/Brent

6- Jaymes/James

7- Rob/Kelley – (Toyouke: “Oh, Monster Truck. The editors must have peed themselves when they found out you said all that stuff about being in first.”)

Teams are now instructed to take a ferry to the Üsküdar Terminal.  Teams board the ferries in the following order:

Ferry # 3

Teams are now instructed to take a taxi to Misir Carsisi and find shop #14. 

When Josh and Brent arrive, they find their Speed Bump.

SPEED BUMP:

A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this speed bump, teams must find the marked ice cream vendor and order Turkish Ice Cream and consume both of them in order to receive their next clue.

(Toyouke: “EAT ICE CREAM!?!?!?! The Speed Bump is to eat ice cream. I love Josh and Brent so, good, but are you shitting me?”)

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:

1- Josh/Brent

After much ice cream eating (especially since they went to the WRONG VENDOR first)  (Toyouke: “Wait. Wait a goddamn minute. The Speed Bump task is to eat ice cream AND YOU FUCKED IT UP. What is this I don't even  WHY IS MY FAVORITE TEAM SUCH MORONS”), they continue with the rest of the teams in getting the clue.

Teams officially arrive at booth #14 in the following order:

4- Abbie/Ryan

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Simit OR Scrub It 
*Simit: Teams must transport Turkish bagels to three different addresses using the traditional method of carrying them stacked on their head.  Once all three deliveries are made, the master baker will give them their next clue.
*Scrub It: Teams travel to a traditional Turkish bath.  Teams choose a bath attendant and get cleaned off to get the clue.

(Toyouke: “OK, first of all, why is Phil in a bathrobe and not shirtless? And secondly, who the HELL is picking "Simit"?”)

Teams are now instructed to travel by foot to Kapali Carsi to get their next clue at the marked fountain.  They arrive in the following order:

4- Natalie/Nadiya   

5- Jaymes/James

6- Josh/Brent

7- Rob/Kelley

Teams now get the seventh roadblock clue.

ROADBLOCK:

Who’s ready to pour their heart out?

In this roadblock, roadblockers must dress as a traditional vendor and sell sherbet, often described as the world’s first soft drink.  They must serve forty glasses and earn 40 lira in order to get their next clue.

The following teammates take the Roadblock:

2- Ryan – (Toyouke: “I kind of like this Roadblock. And not only because Ryan keeps failing.”)
3- Abba

6- Brent - "I can work a costume."  Random Cute Turkish Boy: "If you made it, I don't drink it!"

After much sherbet selling, teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:

5- Jaymes/James

7- Rob/Kelley

Teams now must take a taxi and find MV Savarona next to Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Parkı, the PIT STOP of the sixth leg of this racearoundtheworld.   The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

Teams get to the Pit Stop in the following order:

1- Trey/Lexi – who win a trip for 2 to Australia.
2- Abbie/Ryan
3- James/Abba

4- Natalie/Nadiya   

5- Jaymes/James

6- Josh/Brent

7- Rob/Kelley

And Rob and Kelley are eliminated.  Good run, though.
